Chair “Data for a More Sustainable Mobility”: Innovation and Collaboration between UPM and CPS

CPS Infraestructuras, Movilidad y Medio Ambiente and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), have formalized a strategic agreement that gives rise to the creation of the Chair “Data for a More Sustainable Mobility”. This new area of collaboration is aimed at promoting scientific and technological development in the field of advanced data management applied to mobility and road safety.

The agreement, signed at the UPM Rectorate by the Rector Óscar García Suárez and Gonzalo López CEO of CPS, consolidates an alliance that integrates academic research with practical application in the sector. Promoted by the ETSI de Caminos, Canales y Puertos and the Transportation Research Center (TRANSyT), the Chair is articulated around three main axes: dissemination, research and training.

This initiative was born in a context in which the availability of real-time data -from sensors, GPS signals or mobile devices- makes it possible to address challenges such as congestion, mobility planning or accident reduction in an innovative way. The Chair is also configured as a reference forum for the public and private sector, under the shared direction of Juan Gómez (UPM) and Javier Tarriño (CPS).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by institutional representatives of both organizations, reaffirming their joint commitment to move towards more sustainable mobility. For CPS, this collaboration also represents an opportunity to enhance the value of new sources of information and facilitate decision-making by mobility managers in Spain.
